Reducing Damage on Soil and Water with GIS in the Swedish Forestry
Track: Forestry
Authors: Gustav Friberg
Using “depth to water index” (DTW) for nationwide implementation in forest harvesting operations is efficient in harvest planning and may lead to 70% reduction of damage on soil and water. Providing the DTW-maps to harvester operators and they are able to locate wet areas and avoid these.
Field inventories all over Sweden shows that 70% of damage are located to areas marked by the DTW. Spatial analyses in ArcMap and Esri’s Collector App is key tools for our results.
