Mining Cellular Data to Improve Transit Planning in the Tahoe Basin

The number of visitors to Lake Tahoe grows annually, yet the capacity of the roadway network is at build-out. The solutions include expanding transit, ferry and bicycle modes. Using GIS and cellular device data from AirSage Analytics, Stantec examined visitor destinations, trip movements between traffic analysis zones, trip type and time of day travel over three months. Spatial statistic tools (Hot Spot) were used to quantify movements and destinations for a long range multi-modal plan.
