The Sunderbans is a geographically unique but deprived region with poor access to eye care services. GIS gave us a mechanism to analyse blindness and health seeking behaviours, and a means to monitor ongoing service use for improved project management. We conducted a spatially referenced survey for contextual understanding. Project monitoring is ongoing and employs a multiplicity of GIS analyses. A case study of a GIS integrated health development project in a challenging, resource poor setting.
