In 2015, the Office of the Geographer and Global Issues launched ‘Mapping Secondary Cities for Resiliency, Human Security, and Emergency Preparedness,’ to build local capacity in using geospatial technologies and create new data in secondary cities. Participants use Esri software such as Survey123, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Desktop alongside open geospatial tools including GeoNode, OpenStreetMap, and Field Papers to create, manage, analyze, and share geospatial data over a year long engagement.
