Abstract
Simplifying the Scale: Esri Metrics for Active Transportation Projects
Track: Architecture, Engineering, and Construction
Authors: Brent Turley
Measuring benefits of active transport projects using tools such as travel demand models or the Highway Capacity Manual have proven cumbersome and can provide non-intuitive or inconclusive results. A better method is to use ESRI GIS applications that provide quantitative metrics that lead to more informed decisions. Case studies in Oakland and San Clemente, California show that metrics from GIS connectivity analytics helped refine these projects, achieve public acceptance, and obtain funding.
