Abstract
Riparian Buffer Effectiveness Modeling
Track: Water Resources

Riparian buffers serve the important ecological function of filtering pollutants from overland flow before that flow reaches stream networks. Here we demonstrate geospatial ArcPy-based hydrological modeling methods for evaluating the effectiveness and priority placement of riparian buffers. These methods have been used to identify subcatchments of concern in Michigan as well as for analyzing dissolved organic carbon exports to the Gulf of Maine.
