Print On Demand (POD) and Map Automation

USGS currently uses a software system called Map on Demand (MOD) to generate maps modeled on the familiar 1:24,000-scale quadrangle maps. ESRI has created a similar improved system called Print on Demand (POD). Through a contractual partnership with ESRI, it is expected that in 2016, USGS will migrate to POD for creation of these maps. This paper documents modifications and enhancements to POD to meet current product standards, including software, cartographic data, and business rules.
