Abstract
Analysis of Environmental Impacts from the Port of Miami Expansion
Track: Maritime and Ports
Authors: Julienne Beblo
In order to permit larger vessels, Port Miami deepened its aquatic channel. The activity has raised concerns over excessive sedimentation caused from the actual removal, transport, and dumping of the dredged sediment. Using GIS, potential short-term and long-term impacts from the dredging activities are therefore evaluated. The project identifies potential negative impacts that are likely to occur in Port Miami and serves as a reference for future expansions of other ports.
