Abstract
Portraying Airport Wildlife Hazards using Story Maps
Track: Aviation
Authors: Jason Kougher, Jenny Washburn
Recently, USDA APHIS WS’ Airport Wildlife Hazards Program has begun to use story maps to portray their wildlife management efforts across our nation’s airports. Using spatial analyses such as density estimation, wildlife biologists can highlight airfield attractants that appeal to hazardous wildlife species, therefore providing site specific habitat management recommendations. Further, story maps assist biologists’ outreach efforts to cooperators regarding aircraft wildlife strike risks.
