The U.S. Geological Survey is building a new version of the National Hydrography Dataset Plus (NHDPlus) that uses 1/3 arc-second elevation data and high-resolution NHD data. The increased data volume and data complexity have raised data storage and data processing issues. Changes in the database structure, raster data formats, and database key fields solved these problems. The new database design has been successfully applied to process two test areas in the eastern United States.
