Abstract
Point Clouds to Vectors: Getting Laser Scan Data into GIS
Track: 3D GIS
Authors: Keir Keightley, Helen Sobien
An application of data translation is presented wherein laser scan data from tree roots is used to generate 3D vectors for analysis in ArcGIS. A sequence of software tools was used to process laser scanning point cloud data from a raw state to a GIS compatible vector data format. These data were then visualized and analyzed within ArcGIS to better understand the 3D spatial characteristics of roots and how they interact with the soil volume.
