Beginning in 2014, the National Hurricane Center has created a real-time potential storm surge flooding map to help communicate the forecasted height of storm surge flooding that emergency managers and the general public should plan for from an impending tropical cyclone. This map utilizes the NWS Probabilistic Surge forecast guidance to account for the meteorological uncertainty in the storm and applies GIS techniques to post-process the data and generate an interactive map for our users.
