Job-housing mismatch is considered a key contributor to traffic congestion in regional planning. As a part of its long-range regional transportation plan, SCAG conducted the geospatial analysis of typical commute distance and job-to-worker ratio for nearly 4,000 census tracts in the region to understand the spatial and temporal dynamics of job-housing mismatch. To automate and expedite the workflow, SCAG utilized ArcGIS, Python scripting and SAS, which offers benefits in time and cost savings.
