Automatic Building Generalisation for the 1:50’000 Swiss National Map

An exceptional generalisation challenge to be found within the Swiss National Map is representing individual houses over various scales. This presentation shows a possible solution for the automatic generalisation of the 1:10’000 buildings whilst retaining the settlement pattern for a scale of 1:50’000. The implementation was entirely done with ArcGIS generalization tools and automated with the Model Builder. The results of this project could be very useful for producers of topographic data.
