Abstract
GIS as a Management Tool in Nepal Earthquake Response
Track: Humanitarian Aid
Authors: Charlie Charping
After a catastrophic earthquake struck Nepal, Samaritan’s Purse delivered emergency relief items to 50,000 families. GIS provided real-time mobile-based data collection, GPS points, and reports to headquarters. Information was synthesized with a live mapping dashboard, photos, and data information tables and used in coordination with the United Nations. Information for previous responses was collected on paper and hand-entered into spreadsheets, slowing the response process.
