Youth Engagement in GIS to Map Natural Resources of San Mateo County

Within the communities of San Mateo County, under-served youth have the opportunity to gain experience using GIS and collect natural resources data for the Parks Department. Using the ArcGIS Collector App, youth crews with the Student Conservation Association collect data on trail conditions, invasive species, and restoration work. A pilot project was conducted in 2015 that proved successful in engaging youth in the use of GIS for field data collection. This work will continue for several years.
