Use of ArcGIS to Support Arc Flash Electrical Analysis in Oil Fields

“Arc Flash” or a spark resulting from a short is a significant hazard in oil fields. To avoid death or severe injury, regulations require that equipment be marked with a level of hazard. This paper will describe a project performed by Occidental Petroleum to perform analysis and label over 11000 wells in the Permian Basin using an innovative approach of capturing features using GPS, then using software in ArcGIS to create models and export data into a Power Systems software for analysis.
