Abstract
Managing Crowdsourced Bathymetric Data at NOAA
Track: Oceans
Authors: John Cartwright, Jesse Varner
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the International Hydrographic Organization have undertaken a partnership to manage bathymetric measurements collected by private mariners. These data are intended to supplement traditional surveys but may not always meet the strict standards of government/academic data collection.
Incoming data are received via web service, transformed and stored in a spatial database, and then made available through a map-centric web interface.
