Developing Health and Equity Indicators from a Place-based Perspective

Where individuals live, work, play, and go to school shapes their health, quality of life, and life expectancy. San Mateo County Health System used ArcMap and ArcGIS Online to map more than 20 health, social, economic, and environmental indicators by census tract, zip code, school district, or city. A user-friendly data hub was created that can be duplicated by other jurisdictions interested in developing a tool to visualize spatial patterns of health for planning and programmatic purposes.
