Abstract
Example of GIS and Traffic Data Used in Traffic Hackathon
Track: Real-Time and Big Data
Authors: Edwin Kools
With the availability of big data it is increasingly difficult for road authorities to know about all useful data sets and use them to their full potential. A practical example how to tackle this problem was the Toronto TrafficJam hackathon, in which the tech and big data community used GIS visualisation combined with historical traffic information in shape- and KML-files and other big data sources to turn big data into information that helps the city highlight trouble spots and manage traffic.
