Recognizing the need for precision in its approach to infrastructure and institutional knowledge management, the Department of Public Utilities embarked on an initiative to develop a GIS data structure that could support all of the different functions of its business. This was an evolution from the maps of lines and shapes towards an investment in an architecture that has meaning and could be perpetual, could better inform and improve processes, and could drive efforts towards sustainability.
