Abstract
Death Trends: Mapping Medical Examiner Cases
Track: Public Health
Authors: Jennifer Lana
Cobb County, Georgia is part of the Atlanta Metro Region and has 2 full-time Medical Examiners on staff. In 2014 their office performed over 1,400 autopsies. They requested support from the GIS team to identify patterns and trends for various deaths. Starting with cases from 1999 until present, analysis was completed for 4 major causes of death: Homicide, Drug Overdose, Pedestrian and Traffic. The data is beneficial to identify areas needing additional resources such as prevention education.
