Using GIS to Analyze Commercial Air Traffic Origin/Destination Data

GIS can convert massive amounts of tabular data into meaningful information through spatial analysis. This paper illustrates the power of tabular-to-spatial data transformation using commercial air traffic origin/destination (OD) tables for 2014-15. Hundreds of thousands of OD pairs can only be visualized and analyzed in a spatial context. Spatial analysis uncovers hidden patterns that advance our understanding of the urban hierarchy of the United States.
