A Study on the Occurrence Factors of Vacant Lands in the Small Town

The population is decreasing in Japan. This causes increasing of vacant lands in the urban area with forming low-density areas. Such areas cause high infrastructure maintenance load and degraded living environment. This study aims at understanding the relationship among the place of vacant lands and the geographic factors, and also estimating the future vacant lands map. As a result, many of such areas are near from the edge of urban area. Based on this result, alternative scenario can be built.
