Utilizing Raster & Vector Data to Develop Statewide Land Cover Dataset

Virginia is developing a statewide 1-meter land cover dataset by using ArcGIS streamlined raster image extraction, the Spatial Analyst extension, ArcPy scripts, as well as source vector, raster and LiDAR datasets. QA efforts proved imperative, while data storage revealed unanticipated hurdles. The final, public raster and vector product will help ascertain impervious land cover percentage for storm water management, determine change detection and allow for further sub-classification.
