Using ArcCollector to Engage Native Youth and Map Invasive Species

Partnering with federal agencies, the Southwest Conservation Corps engaged Native American youth to map weeds on the Navajo Nation and the Glen Canyon NRA. Garmin GLO GPS receivers paired with tablets provided spatial precision and the ability to employ user-friendly apps (MapItFast, ArcCollector), as participants lacked prior experience. We’ll share results of mapping efforts and lessons learned during the pilot season. This will interest project coordinators mapping areas with volunteers.
