Abstract
Bullets in the Projects: New York City Public Housing as Gun Violence
Track: Law Enforcement
Authors: Christopher Herrmann
The NYPD annual crime statistics indicate that 20% of shootings in New York City occur in public housing. While the number of shootings in New York City has decreased almost 25% in the last five years, shootings in and around public housing have not benefited from these significant crime reductions. This study analyzes public housing populations and micro-level shooting hot spots to determine the differences in space-time-shooting relationships in New York City public housing.
