Abstract
GPS Travel Surveys: Analysis of Self-Reported Locations vs. GPS Data
Track: Real-Time and Big Data
Authors: Timothy Michalowski
Abt SRBI has extensive experience in GPS data collection for regional travel surveys through deployment of GPS devices. The real-time passive GPS devices collect data every second of travel. For the travel survey, participants are asked frequent travel addresses. These self-reported addresses are geocoded with ESRI tools & compared to GPS data for spatial statistics. This paper examines the value of self-reported addresses, do these addresses enhance GPS travel data or are redundant?
