Abstract
Image Analysis – Measuring Landscape Vegetation in 1.3 Million Parcels
Track: Water Resources

We conducted image analysis and vegetation classification on an area of approximately 2,500 mi2 within the Santa Ana River Watershed. The purpose was to identify irrigated areas within parcels by which water retailers could estimate outdoor water budgets for customers. ERDAS software was used to perform the classification, and GIS was used to calculate areas, make adjustments for slope and automate the generation of data. The data was delivered to 26 water retailers within the watershed.
