Abstract
Optimising the Location of Speed Cameras in New Zealand
Track: Highways and Roads
Authors: Chris Morris, Mark Stables
To reduce speed-related crashes, the NZ Police is expanding its network of speed cameras. To identify sites for speed camera placement, they undertook an independent GIS-based assessment. Using historic crash data, corridors with many speed-related or high severity crashes were identified and ranked. Social cost reductions were then used to identify optimal sites. The results of the analysis were presented in a web viewer to allow the Police to undertake further scoping of potential sites.
