Power lines are currently being inspected by helicopters, a safer but expensive and critical task to do by electrical engineers. The inspection is now realized by means of geospatial technologies as a proactive tool for Electrical engineers. Geospatial scientists have investigated the use of unmanned remotely piloted aircraft systems for monitoring and detection of defects and thermal anomalies on pylons, insulators and conductors. The data is analysed using ArcGIS and reported via web services.
