Abstract
Health Inequities: Using Spatial Data to Strategize for Action
Track: Public Health
Authors: Rebecca Hollenbach
Using geocoded Vital Statistics data for Louisville, associated birth and death rates were mapped by market area at a sub-county level. Spatial analysis helped reveal vast disparities in infant mortality, life expectancy, and other disease burdens which were also correlated with social determinants of health such as income. Revealing these patterns demonstrate the results of systematic oppression and substantiate the need for targeted policies and programs to improve health outcomes.
