Abstract
GIS as an Engineering Tool in Citywide Stormwater Planning
Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater
Authors: Jeff Whanger, Steve Eubanks
A multipart GIS based planning tool was developed for the City of Fort Worth to analyze the entire City’s storm drain needs. This approach used Model Builder and many geoprocessing tools to relate pipe capacities, citywide inundation data, and other factors to produce a quick and efficient “Master Plan” showing prioritized planning studies and Capital Improvement Projects. GIS was used for its ability to process both engineering calculations and spatial relationships of large datasets quickly.
