Abstract
Aquaculture Mapping in the Lower Mekong with SAR and Open Source Tools
Track: Environmental Management
Authors: Thailynn Munroe
The goal of this study is to produce accurate river and land change/use maps that show where areas have been replaced by aquaculture in the Lower Mekong Delta. This study uses change detection analysis techniques on SAR and optical images (Landsat 5, 7, 8, and Sentinel 1) as well as various open source geospatial tools to identify areas of change over several years (from roughly 2005 to present). The results provide valuable information in terms of ecosystem services, food security, and disaster risk reduction.
