Abstract
Volunteers Use ArcGIS Collector to Inventory Springs Ecosystems
Track: Water Resources
Authors: Jeri Ledbetter, Jeff Jenness
Springs—ecosystems where groundwater flows from the Earth—are poorly mapped and studied, yet they function as biodiversity hotspots. To assist land managers with improved understanding and stewardship of springs, volunteers used ArcGIS Collector to verify locations; collect water quality, flow, and wildlife data; submit photographs; and report on the condition of 90 springs. Our first project engaged 30 volunteers; data will be used to analyze effects of thinning on Northern Arizona forests.
