Abstract
Leveraging GIS Apps and Websites to Communicate During Emergency Event
Track: Disaster and Emergency Management
Authors: Gary Titosky
In 2013 more than 100,000 Albertans were forced from their homes by flood waters. Nearly 14,500 homes were damaged; 80 schools and 10 health facilities were affected; and nearly 1,000 kilometers of highway were closed and tragically, five individuals lost their lives. See how Alberta is leveraging GIS to improve communications between the forecasters, emergency responders and the public. Ensuring that latest information is available as soon as possible in an easy to use and understand format.
