Abstract
Catastrophic Planning with FEMA’s Hazus Earthquake Model
Track: Disaster and Emergency Management
Authors: Jordan Burns
FEMA's Hazus models can be used to estimate natural hazard impacts from floods, hurricanes, tsunamis and earthquakes. FEMA's Region 8 GIS team worked with partners in the Rocky Mountains to develop a suite of earthquake risk assessments that leverage critical infrastructure data and are publicly accessible in ArcGIS Online. Modeled scenarios employ the latest advances in geospatial technology to drive catastrophic planning, decision support and risk communication for vulnerable communities.
