Abstract
Using Emerging Hotspot Analysis to Understand Indonesian Fire Trends
Track: Conservation
Authors: Sarah Sargent
In 2015, Indonesia’s worst fire season in 20 years spread toxic haze across Southeast Asia and tripled Indonesia’s greenhouse gas emissions. Efforts to prevent fires must focus where fires are chronic or worsening. We used Esri’s Emerging Hotspot analysis to analyze Indonesia fire trends from 2001 to 2015. This method presents a robust, repeatable, statistically sound method for determining new fire hotspots to better direct limited resources towards fire prevention in Indonesia.
