Since the consolidation of tourism as one of the main economic activities along the Ecuadorian coastline in the 90s, plenty of towns and cities experienced a rapid and uncontrolled urban growth that contributed increasing poverty and exposure instead of triggering sustainable development. The study applied ArcGIS as a tool to observe and understand these new dynamics based on the geographical and statistical information.
