Coast Live and Valley Oak trees have been planted as a mitigation effort for surcharging Lake Cachuma (Santa Ynez River/Valley, Santa Barbara, CA) that provides additional dam releases for the endangered southern steelhead downstream of the lake. This oak forest restoration has been ongoing since 2006 with over 3,000 trees planted. GIS technologies have been essential to the planning, management, project development, outreach and success of this ecological effort.
