Abstract
Describing Violence Levels across Time and Space in Cincinnati, Ohio
Track: Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice

How violent is a street corner? Infrequent outcomes challenge accurate measurement. Pooling outcomes and increasing event frequency can more accurately measure broader topics. By using 3-dimensional weighting (using spatial, temporal, and seriousness factors) CPD can better describe violence levels of micro-places (e.g., 100' x 100' cells). Although the current use-case is describing violence, this methodology could be expanded to pool other infrequent outcomes describing broader concepts.
