Abstract
Extracting Seeps in a GIS Mashup from Analysis to Web
Track: Ocean and Maritime
Authors: Pamela Kanu
Water column data are collected by sonar that beams and records the seafloor and used to map characteristics of the ocean. Challenges have hindered widespread commercial tool development—massive amounts of extremely noisy data collected make identifying seeps somewhat off putting. In this analysis, thousands of points conglomerate into dense masses where, spatial analysis and statistics are used to identify bodies of fish and plumes. The results are a coalesce of linear points (seeps).
