Abstract
Spatial Decision-Making for Collaborative Landscape Planning
Track: Urban and Regional Planning
Authors: Rachel Glass
Spatial data can resolve contentious public land use issues. When heavy target shooting forced the Forest Service to close a popular mountain pass near Tucson, AZ, in 2013, the university researcher worked with the FS and interest groups to map where visitors recreate on the Pass. After analyzing the data, hotspot areas were discovered. These specific locations focused discussion and, after two years, generated a collaborative area management plan to guide more equitable use on the Pass.
