Abstract
A New Datum for Nepal Plus Tools to Correct for the 2015 Earthquake
Track: Disaster and Emergency Management

All GIS spatial references are dependent on geodetic datums however these can be severely distorted by earthquakes as shown by recent events in Japan, New Zealand and Nepal. Tools exist to correct coordinates for co-seismic offsets but usually these are only available a long delay. Nepal’s experience with the April 2015 Gorka Earthquake shows how a new datum, deformation model and accurate correction grids for GIS can be developed quickly and with a minimum of expense.
