Abstract
How a GPS Valve Inventory Resulted in More Accurate Water Mains

In 2015 we initiated an inventory of our water valves previously developed from paper maps and CAD. We used existing staff with a GPS rover to validate every valve point in the GIS. Along the way we found anomalies and errors, but we were able to take advantage of this opportunity to adjust the water main geometry so they correspond with the newly validated valve points. We would like to discuss methodology and use of institutional knowledge to develop these higher quality data layers.
