Abstract
Integrating Social Vulnerability and Flood Safety Modeling
Track: Disaster and Emergency Management
Authors: John Pritchard
This presentation will explore whether social vulnerability characteristics of a place can be used to improve assumptions related to the spatial distribution of the population at risk during a flood safety simulation. The ArcGIS platform will be used to map the distribution of population using dasymetric mapping techniques applied to proxy variables such as vehicle ownership datasets. Finally, flood safety simulation results will be validated using case study data and literature values.
