Abstract
A Story Map of Ocean Economics in Puerto Rico and the U.S.V.I
Track: Ocean and Maritime
Authors: Camille Martineau
National economic accounts show that Puerto Rico and the USVI have 19% and 7% of their respective workforces dependent on ocean-related economic activities. A NOAA report shows that the contribution of the ocean to these economies is even greater than national statistics would indicate. This story map illustrates the unique economies of Puerto Rico and the USVI, telling the story of informal economic activities, like subsistence fishing, that drive the economies of these territories.
