Abstract
Mapping Epidemics with the Help of Epi Curves
Track: Public Health
Authors: Ian Dunn
Traditional variables for mapping epidemics such as prevalence and incidence have limitations visualizing the severity and temporal stage of epidemics. Epi curves are widely used by epidemiologists to objectively assess the type, severity, and lifecycle of epidemics but cannot assess their spatial distribution. This presentation will describe a novel way to visualize epidemics by using python to calculate the slope of the epi curve in ArcMap in order to map what traditional variables cannot.
