Abstract
U.S. Census Bureau Geography of the Island Areas
Track: Elections, Redistricting, and Census
Authors: Joshua Coutts
The Census Bureau treats the territories of American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), and the United States Virgin Islands as statistically equivalent to states; however each island's distinct history demands a suite of unique geographic units for data reporting. This presentation will provide an overview of the U.S. Census Bureau's work maintaining these unusual geographies, and how ESRI technology facilitates this work.
