Coastal dunes are arguably the most dynamic terrestrial habitats world-wide. Using ArcGIS, remote sensing, and ground truthing, I am mapping how this dynamic system changes spatially over time and what biotic and abiotic factors control changes. By mapping the vegetated and non-vegetated extents of areas devegetated by Hurricane Sandy in 2012 I can infer patterns in storm erosion and system changes as a function of ecogeomorphological parameters that vary at different scales along a coast.
